Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty)
Breast reduction surgery is one of the most commonly used breast aesthetic surgeries in the world. Although I say breast aesthetics, for some major breast cases this is not really an aesthetic operation. This type of surgery is a must, but it does not work, like gallbladder, tonsil or hernia surgery. In other words, it is used to eliminate the health problems caused by the fully enlarged breast instead of changing the shape of the breast. Most of my patients complain as follows: "Doctor, save me from this burden, I have no more comfort in my life." Therefore, in these cases, breast reduction is far removed from the definition of aesthetic surgery.
Should I undergo this surgery?
This is a very personal decision. However, who really should have no complaints would not want to have such an operation. If your breast structure is very large compared to your body, excessive sweating and rubbing under your chest will cause skin irritation, fungus, etc. if your bra straps leave a mark on your shoulder due to the weight of your breasts and your neck and back pain becomes unbearable yes, then you should have this operation performed. Because the cause of these complaints are extremely heavy breasts, and as soon as the breasts are not reduced to the normal size, you will not get away with these complaints. I would also mention that you can not get rid of these symptoms by dieting and losing weight. The only solution is reduction surgery.
I am very afraid to get anesthetized?
Breast reduction surgery is one of the most commonly used breast aesthetic surgeries in the world.
Complications of general anesthesia are very rare in patients with a healthy cardiovascular and respiratory system. The development of technological devices and new anesthetic patches significantly increases the safety of anesthesia. Even if you have some major diseases such as cardiovascular problems (arrhythmia, hypertension, heart failure, etc.), respiratory problems (COPD, asthma, pneumonia, etc.) and systemic chronic diseases (diabetes, hyperthyroidism, etc.) will increase the risk of anesthesia problems, but aside from today's medicine, overcomes these problems by intervening in advance, thus preventing the emergence of vital risks. The risk of anesthesia is not so great that you give up an operation you need.
How long will my surgery last and how long will I have to stay at the hospital?
Although the duration of breast reduction may vary depending on the technique used, it takes about 3-4 hours. When you wake up after surgery under general anesthesia, draining drainage and bandages on both sides of your chest will occur. The drains are removed on the next or second day and the patient is subsequently discharged. As long as the patient stays in the hospital, the vein access will apply antibiotics and painkillers. In anesthesia-related nausea, however, a plastic treatment is performed. After discharge, you will be asked to wear an elastic bra for about a month.
When can I return to work and to my everyday life?
In a completely smooth healing process of breast reduction surgery, you can go back to work after a week (if it's a desk job, which does not require much exercise). It is to your advantage if you keep away from household chores for 10-15 days, which require arm power. From the end of the second week, you can start taking light walks. You have to wait 1.5 to 2 months to perform heavy exercises that require full strength. If there are stitches on the skin, they will be removed by your doctor after 3 weeks.
What kind of problems could come to me after the operation?

Based on my many years of experience in this area, I can say that patients undergoing breast reduction in Izmir are very satisfied with the results at a rate of 85-90%. The proportion of patients experiencing adverse complications is extremely low, and even in these patients the satisfaction rate is high. Choosing the right doctor, trusting your doctor and following your doctor's recommendations (for example, not smoking) can significantly reduce the risk of poor outcomes.
